The 450 stainless steel alloy is an age-hardenable martensitic stainless steel known for its similar corrosion resistance and strength qualities as 304 stainless steel. With its moderate strength and enhanced corrosion resistance, possible methods can be used for machining and heat-treating custom 450. This metal has machinability properties with feeds and speeds comparable to other martensitic steels. For best yield results, slow speeds and positive feeds are used. Primarily, these alloy metals are generally employed in applications requiring standard austenitic fail in strength and martensitic fails in corrosion resistance. Furthermore, this alloy can be machined in many manners; they are also suitable for hot-working and cold forming. Custom 450 stainless exhibits excellent yield strength in the annealed condition and could be easily fabricated. What develops its good toughness and flexibility is the single-step aging treatment. Preheating material is unnecessary, and both shielded fusion and resistance have usually been employed. This metal demonstrates excellent resistance to corrosion with moderate strength.

Custom 450® UNS S45000

Custom 450® stainless is a martensitic age-hardenable stainless steel which exhibits very good corrosion resistance with moderate strength. Although the alloy a yield strength higher than 100 Ksi (689 MPa) in the annealed condition, it is easily fabricated. A single-step aging treatment develops higher strength with good ductility and toughness. Generally supplied in the annealed condition, requiring no heat treatment by the user for many applications. Because it has corrosion resistance like Type 304 stainless but three times the yield strength, it has been used in applications where Type 304 was not strong enough. On the other hand, it has also replaced Type 410 stainless directly on a strength basis where Type 410 had insufficient corrosion resistance. Mechanical properties will depend on the aging temperature selected.
